Sirius Academy with Ganton special school and the Educational Service for Hearing and Vision
Sirius Academy, sponsored by Hull College, moved into its new 1,450 capacity building in September 2011. The Academy also has additional capacity for up to 200 16 – 19 year olds staying on/supported into post-16 learning.
The facilities available inside this new school include -
- six court sports hall and three multi-use games areas (MUGAs)
- an eco-dome
- hair and beauty salon
The school is co-located with the secondary phases of Ganton Special School and the Education Service for Hearing and Vision.
Ganton Special School provides 128 places for pupils aged 2 – 19 years with severe learning difficulties in the west of Hull. Specialist facilities available to their students include a sensory garden and hydrotherapy pool.
The third school housed inside this new building is the Education Service for Hearing and Vision. This bespoke centre has capacity for 40 pupils aged between 11 and 18 years old.
The primary phases of these special schools will make up part of the West Hull Learning Village which is planned to open in 2012.
Balfour Beatty began construction of this scheme in October 2010, it was designed by AEDAS Architects and cost £48.5 million.
